Twilight Talks are weekly Friday night astronomy events at the Centre of the Universe, located at the historic Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Victoria, BC.
Each week features a different cosmic theme, combining engaging presentations, a planetarium show, and a guided tour of the observatory. No two evenings are the same, making every visit a new way to explore the universe.
Whether you're a local or visiting Victoria, this is a memorable night out for anyone curious about space, science, or the history of astronomy in Canada.
What to expect
Your Friday evening runs from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and includes a variety of guided experiences.
Your evening includes:
Planetarium Experience
Take a journey through space in our immersive planetarium. Depending on the evening, you may explore the night sky, learn about constellations, or enjoy a specially selected astronomy film.
Guided Observatory Tour
Step inside one of Canada’s most significant astronomical sites. Learn about the historic Plaskett Telescope and the discoveries made at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory.
Weekly Astronomy Talk
Each Twilight Talk features a live presentation on a different topic in astronomy or space science—from galaxies and black holes to space exploration and the history of the observatory.

Twilight Talks are best suited for older children, teens, and adults. While curious younger visitors are welcome, the content is designed to be most engaging for those with an interest in science and astronomy. All guests must be accompanied by an adult.

Advanced booking is recommended as space is limited. You can reserve your spot online for any upcoming Friday night Twilight Talk.

Most of the experience takes place indoors, including the planetarium show and presentations. The observatory tour does include some time outdoors, so we recommend dressing appropriately for the weather.

Yes, free parking is available on site at the Centre of the Universe.

Telescope viewing may be included, depending on the weather, air conditions and other factors. Our staff support the observing experience by operating he instruments and guiding guests through what they are seeing.
